Marana‘s team is taking off for this weekend’s All-America City competition in Colorado. Representatives from the Town, Arizona Youth Partnership and the Marana Unified School District are part of the group that will make its presentation Saturday morning before a panel that picks the winners. There are 16 finalist communities, 10 of which will earn the All-America City honor.
The award celebrates cities and towns that find innovative ways to address long-standing municipal problems. Winners are being announced Sunday night. Keep your fingers crossed.
The weekend includes workshops and opportunities to learn from other finalists. Marana is the only Arizona community to reach the finals this year.
The All-America City Award is given by the National Civic League, a 120-year old nonpartisan, nonprofit organization based in Denver. The league’s mission is accomplished by fostering and sharing promising practices of local government and public engagement and celebrating the progress that can be achieved when people work together.
The award has been handed out annually since 1949. The Town also was named a finalist in 2008.
