The Marana Police Department deployed officers over Thanksgiving weekend as part of the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force. The goal was to reduce injuries and deaths associated with impaired drivers.
By conducting these deployments, the department was able to increase the awareness of motorists about the dangers of impaired driving, deter those who may be impaired and detect and investigate DUI offenses to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road.
The results included:
•65: total traffic stops;
•9 : DUI Arrests (eight misdemeanor and one felony);
•1: person arrested under 21 years old;
•0.175: average BAC of the people arrested;
•36: traffic citations issued;
•0: DUI-related collisions.
The deployment was made possible by funding provided by a partnership with the state DUI Abatement Council.
