Get a fun, free look at world of policing

The Marana Police Department invites citizens and business owners to participate in its Citizens Police Academy.

The academy is a free program designed to offer an inside look at law enforcement operations. This interactive program showcases several units in the department with an emphasis on policy and daily responsibilities of a police officer. The academy is a 42-hour block of instruction provided by MPD personnel, allowing participants an opportunity to get to know officers and department employees.

The Citizens Academy is scheduled for Sept. 3 through Nov. 19. Classes are held Wednesdays from 6 p.m.-9:30 pm at the Northwest Fire District Training Facility (5125 West Camino de Fuego Road).

Topics include introduction to command staff, defensive tactics, Taser orientation, SWAT, motor units, active shooters, firearms, criminal investigations and K-9 unit.
