Busy life of a Marana intern

Marana’s interns share their summer experiences.

Heath Vescori-ChiordiThere are some pretty good things going on in the Office of the Town Manager lately. A lot of different initiatives are moving forward that will attract business development to the area.

As far as interning goes, our projects are moving forward as well. Like I said before, I finished my Finance project, which feels great. I am now focusing more on the Economic Development project, as well as the Marana Regional Airport and Community Development.

We do have something big coming up this week that is going to take up almost three full days: the Arizona City/County Managers Association Summer Conference at Dove Mountain. This thing is going to be fun, and Tony and I are looking forward to it. We helped prep gift bags for the conference as well. People should be excited to receive one of these bad boys. Each bag is black and gray and carries Marana’s Your Town brand. The bags look modern, which is cool. In each bag, people will receive a bottle of sunblock with the Your Town logo on it, a map of trails and recreation in both Marana and Oro Valley, a flyer welcoming people to the conference, a delicious cookie and probably the coolest part of all, a clear plastic tumbler emblazoned with the Your Town logo. Pretty cool, quality stuff! We’ll give you more of an update on the conference after it happens.

This Friday, I also get to continue my Economic Development education with Curt Woody. I get the chance to head to Phoenix to take part in an Arizona Association for Economic Development Executive Board Meeting. It’s a two-parter, starting early in the morning, so it will be a long day. Unfortunately, I can’t sit in on the first part because it’s very exclusive and they’re afraid I’ll leak trade secrets. But I can be in on the second half, which will undoubtedly give me great info. The whole trip should be great. It’s a nice chance to get out of the office, have some good one-on-one time with Curt and see a different side of things. I’m excited about it.

Aside from that, we have a couple new projects being handed to us every now and again, just little things here and there, which is nice. I think we’re working together well, as well as solo. We also finally got our GoPro video back from Planning Director Ryan Mahoney for the League Booth in August and it’s full of carnage. Hopefully we can give people a peek before the conference. And finally, props to Chief Rozema and Captain Jimenez for taking the Ice Water Challenge. That must have been a nice wake up. Until next week!
