Marana Police are providing an opportunity for residents to learn more about the department through its Citizen Police Academy. The objective of the course is to instill in citizens a greater knowledge and understanding of the many functions and services provided by the Marana Police Department.
Advance registration is required and is open to any citizen who meets the following established criteria: a) Participants must be at least 18 years of age, b) must pass a background investigation including a criminal history check, and c) reside or work within the Town of Marana. Application deadline is Friday at 5 p.m.
Participation requires a commitment of one evening a week for a 12 week period. Participants will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Jan. 22 through April 9. Ride-along assignments with an officer may be scheduled and are highly recommended. Classes will be held at the Marana Municipal Complex, unless otherwise instructed.
The program is based on citizen academy sessions formed by agencies all over America. CPAs are intended to open lines of communication between the community and its local police and expand a police agency’s community based efforts. MPD’s Citizen Academy gives citizens a firsthand look at the statutes, regulations and policies that guide officers in their daily duties.
Citizen participation in the program provides a personal understanding and relationship with the men and women who are your Marana Police. Take the opportunity to meet and learn about your Marana Police Department through the Citizens Police Academy. Call 382-2000 for more information.
