Even with a growing population that has reached 40,000 residents, Marana saw a decrease in numerous serious crimes in 2013.
Thanks to increased patrols and stronger partnerships with businesses and neighborhoods, the Town saw a:
*58 percent decrease in motor vehicle theft;
*23 percent decrease in robbery;
*6 percent decrease in larceny.
Motor vehicle theft, robbery and larceny are classified as Part 1 crimes. Those offenses are considered serious, tend to be reported more reliably than others and are reported directly to the police and not to a separate agency.
“These statistics are a testament to the things the men and women of our department are doing in conjunction with other Town departments and the community as a whole to make Marana safe,” said Marana Chief of Police Terry Rozema. “We are proud of our Town and we want to ensure that it remains a great place to live and do business.”
