Tournament officials announced Friday that the 2013 World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, which took place at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in February, generated $1,348,156 for charity.
Since the Accenture Match Play Championship moved to Marana in 2007, more than $10.1 million has been raised for area charities as a result of the tournament. The event annually brings together the world’s top 64 golfers in a unique head-to-head match-play competition. As part of the elite World Golf Championships, Friday’s announcement brings the total charitable contributions from the global series to nearly $43.6 million since it began in 1999.
To celebrate topping the $10-million milestone for Southern Arizona charities, the Accenture Match Play Championship is extending a unique ticket offer, available only through its newly launched Twitter feed: @WGC_Accenture. Fans of the event who follow the tournament’s Twitter feed will receive behind-the-scenes updates and offers leading up to the event, including the “Power of 10” Promotion. For only $35, fans can purchase a Saturday ticket and receive a free ticket for Championship Sunday, as well as a $10 voucher good for on-site merchandise. The offer, valued at $80, is good through Oct. 31.
The Accenture Match Play Championship returns to The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Feb. 17-23, 2014, when Matt Kuchar defends his title against the top 64 players in the Official World Golf Ranking. Kuchar won his first World Golf Championships title by defeating 2012 event champion Hunter Mahan 2 and 1 in the Championship Match. Kuchar never played the 18th hole in any of his six matches en route to victory.
