Marana tour filled with surprises

There’s more to Marana than meets the eye. Increase your knowledge of the community by taking part in the Surprising Marana tour on Nov. 2 at either 9 a.m. or noon.

The tour, offered by the Marana Heritage Conservancy and conducted by Naturalist John Scheuring, includes the lime kilns along Silverbell and bat colony at the Santa Cruz on Ina Road.

Learn about the old Borquez Ranch site, Hohokam, Los Morteros, Butterfield Stage station and the original Air Force One.

The tour continues with farming in Marana, the prisoner of war camp, UA Experimental Farm and more. Wander through history in the exhibit room and visit the council chambers at the municipal complex.

The tour, which departs from Crossroads at Silverbell Park, is $10 per adult and $5 per child 12 and under. Reservations are required by e-mailing joanfsmith@hotmail.com or calling 572-5601.
