The latest from the PGA TOUR on the Accenture Match Play field:
Two weeks remain for players to move into the top 64 in the Official World Golf Ranking and solidify their position in the field for the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. The Waste Management Phoenix Open and next week’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on the PGA TOUR, and the European Tour’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic and next week’s Joburg Open are among the final opportunities for players to earn OWGR points and punch their tickets to the Accenture Match Play Championship, which returns to The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana Feb. 18-24.
The Accenture Match Play Championship will feature the top 64 players in the OWGR as of Feb. 11. The bracket and tee times will be unveiled Feb. 17, once the OWGR is updated following the conclusion of the Northern Trust Open on the PGA TOUR.
If the field closed today, it would include players representing 18 countries, compared to 14 on the 2012 roster. Rory McIlroy (No. 1) leads the way, with Bernd Wiesberger (No. 64) squarely on the bubble to qualify for what would be his first Accenture Match Play Championship appearance and only his second World Golf Championships start (2012 Bridgestone Invitational, T55).
