Was that a chill in the air this morning?
The summer heat is finally gone (fingers crossed), Thanksgiving dinners are being planned and the three-story Christmas tree is soon going up in the municipal complex courtyard. The holidays are quickly approaching.
To celebrate the season, the Holiday Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is Dec. 1 at the Municipal Complex (11555 W. Civic Center Dr.). The event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., features Santa and Mrs. Claus, local entertainers, a hot air balloon glow, arts and crafts and food vendors. Of course, don’t forget the free cookies and hot cocoa.
Town Council is lighting the tree at 5:45 p.m. The emcee is Miss Arizona 2012, Piper Stoeckel, who is heading to Las Vegas in January to compete for the Miss America crown.
While the event is free, in the spirit of the season, attendees are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots. This is the season for sharing and there couldn’t be anything more heart-warming than the look on a child’s face as he or she opens a gift during the holidays.
The Town is able to hold community events thanks to local business support. Comcast, a long-time Marana supporter, is the event sponsor. We appreciate everything the Marana-based local office does for the Town, including its sponsorship of our Star Spangled Spectacular.
